GENERAL

a.)On inquiry, jockey Joorawon (Shadowing) pleaded guilty to a charge under MTCSL Rule 208(f) in that passing the 1300 metres, he carelessly allowed his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of The IT Factor, which was racing on his inside, resulting in the latter being carried inwards, bumping the running rail and having to be checked. He was suspended from riding in races for two Mauritian race meetings.

b.)On inquiry, Trainer Perdrau explained that he had instructed jockey Kalychurun (Sir Bernadini) to jump well, and secure a position that where comfortable. He added that he expected to see the gelding racing towards the rear of the field, as this gelding is suited to longer distances and races one paced. When questioned, Jockey Kalychurun confirmed these instructions and added that he had urged his mount to stay in touch in the early and middle part of the race as it was lagging behind the field for the first 1000m. He added that he endeavoured to ask his mount for an effort passing the 600 metres. Thereafter, approaching the 300 metres, he hesitated for a number of strides as he anticipated horses in front of him to give ground and fall back on him. He then elected to take the inside run and improved in the home straight. After consideration, the Stewards decided not to proceed further, however, reprimanded jockey Kalychurun as his ride had come under notice and reminded him of his obligation to ride his mounts in a manner that leaves no room for query.

c.)On inquiry, apprentice Roy (Drop Kick) pleaded guilty to a charge under MTCSL Rule 208(d) in that passing the 800 metres he angled his mount outwards, bumped and carried Afdeek which had improved on his outside out for a number of strides thereby jostling the latter. He was suspended from riding in races for one Mauritian race meeting.

GENERAL

On inquiry, all riders that participated in the race were questioned regarding the going of the track and unanimously stated that the conditions of the track were as usual with nothing untoward to remark upon. Furthermore, it was established that approaching the 600 metres, Rule The Night which was racing on the outside and behind Golden Tractor was switched inwards to endeavour to improve on the inside of Golden Tractor which had shifted out marginally. Leaving the 500 metres, Rule The Night, was urged forward when endeavouring to improve into a tight gap on the inside of Golden Tractor. Jockey Horil (Quatro Five Six) stated that passing the 450 metres, his mount hesitated and jumped the crossing and became unbalanced. Jockey Woodworth (Golden Tractor) added that upon seeing Quatro Five Six jumping the crossing his mount lunged forward as he equally jumped the crossing and became unbalanced where he felt something running into the back of his horse. It was confirmed on the patrol film that Golden Tractor, which was following Quatro Five Six, hesitated and jumped the crossing. When Golden Tractor lunged, it shifted in with Rule The Night running into the heels of Golden Tractor, clipping heels and falling with Jockey N.Juglall being dislodged and suffering a severe fall. On falling, Rule The Night knocked Golden Tractor’s hind legs from under it resulting in Golden Tractor being brought down and falling, dislodging Jockey Woodworth. The Stewards being of the opinion that no blame could be apportioned to any particular rider in this incident, decided not to proceed any further other than to report it as a racing incident.

Stewards' Report

Light rain fell during the running of this race.

Coup For Lute- Carried inwards shortly after the start, and bumped Duke Of York. Came off the crossing at the 450 metres and shifted ground outwards, crowding Straight onto Gordonstoun. Vet Report: Lame near-fore.

Straight- Jumped awkwardly and shifted ground inwards, crowding Kings Empire onto Coup For Lute. Coup For Lute then shifted ground inwards and bumped Duke Of York. Crowded onto Gordonstoun passing the 450 metres. Near the 100 metres, was switched to the outside of Gordonstoun to continue going forward.

Duke Of York- Bumped shortly after the start. When questioned, jockey Orffer explained that after jumping well, he managed to secure a position just off the pace. He added that in the middle stages, the sectionals being fast ones, his mount being a horse that need further, did not have the pace to go with the leaders. As such, he felt that at that stage of the race, it was a better option to let his mount run in its pace, rather than urge it forward to keep up with the leaders, who he believed were going too fast. He also stated that when asked for an effort leaving the 300 metres, his mount quickened to finish 3rd.

Gordonstoun- Raced wide from the 450 metres. Hung in in the home straight.

Midnight Oracle- Slow to begin.

Kings Empire- Crowded for room on jumping. Over the concluding stages, when being ridden with the whip in the right hand, shifted out, with jockey Rama putting his whip away.

Copenhagen- Carried inwards shortly after the start, and bumped Subtropical.

Nimitz- Slow into stride.

Subtropical- Slow to begin and shortly after, shifted ground inwards, making contact with Doublethink, which had shifted out marginally. Hung in in the home straight.

Doublethink- Shifted out marginally on jumping. Raced fiercely in the middle stages. Leaving the 500 metres, was switched to the outside of Copenhagen to improve its position, and carried G I Joe wider on the track.
