Communiqué des commissaires (en version originale)

When arriving at the start, jockey Orffer expressed concerns with the action of Groban. The gelding was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon and passed fit to race.

Crushing Force – Jumped awkwardly and shifted ground outwards, carrying Midnight Messenger outwards onto Seventh Express with the latter being crowded for room. Came off the crossing at the 1300 metres and 1000 metres awkwardly. Approaching the 100 metres, when being ridden with the whip in the right hand, shifted ground outwards. Real Vision, which was racing on its outside, had to be switched to its inside to continue going forward. Jockey Bussunt was shown the video replays of the incident, severely reprimanded and advised that he should straighten his mounts earlier than he did on this occasion.

Seventh Express – Slow to begin and was crowded for room shortly thereafter. Passing the 1200 metres, when being settled, got its head up and raced ungenerously for some distance. Leaving the 1100 metres had difficulty in negotiating the turn and hung out. Dipped passing the 1000 metres.

Trojan Winter – Leaving the 1000 metres, when the pace slackened, became awkwardly placed close to the heels of Crushing Force, it was then taken out to avoid the heels of Crushing Force. Vet report: Bled both nostrils. As it is its second episode of bleeding, this gelding has been suspended for a period of 60 days.

Valerin – Approaching the 450 metres was switched out to improve its position and raced wide from then onwards.

Groban – Threw its head on jumping and was slow to begin.

Real Vision – Bumped on its hindquarters and was turned sideways shortly after the start. Raced wide in the early and middle stages. Leaving the 100 metres had to be switched to the inside of Crushing Force to continue going forward. When questioned, trainer J. M. Henry explained that he instructed jockey T. Juglall to endeavour to jump well, and try to place this gelding close to the lead and ride his race from there. Jockey Juglall confirmed these instructions and explained that after jumping only fairly, he had to urge his mount forward and was caught racing wide in the early stages, he only managed to secure a position one off the rail near the 800 metres. From then on his mount settled on the outside of the leader and, when asked for an effort, quickened in the early stages of the home straight before staying one paced over the concluding stages. When questioned, jockey Juglall explained that he could have moved earlier, however due to the fact that he had made use of his mount in the early stages and that it raced wide, he elected to give the latter a breather before asking it for an effort.

Seventh Silver – Bumped and carried outwards shortly after the start and bumped Real Vision. Raced fiercely in the middle stages. Leaving the 450 metres was switched out to improve its position and made the turn into the home straight very wide.

Midnight Messenger – Carried out on jumping. Leaving the 1100 metres commenced to race fiercely. Approaching the 1000 metres, when being restrained, shifted ground outwards, racing tight onto Seventh Silver.

Communiqué des commissaires (en version originale)

Acting on veterinary advice that Double Winner was lame, the Stewards ordered its withdrawal at 10 a.m. on Saturday 19 December. In view of this, all bets on Double Winner were ordered to be refunded and fixed odds betting was re-opened.

Correct weight was withheld for the Stewards to view the final straight and to consider objections lodged:

Firstly, by jockey Orffer, the rider of Redwood Valley, being declared 5th, against Newsman, being declared 2nd, alleging interference in the final straight. Evidence was taken from both riders, trainer H. Maingard and assistant trainer S. Gujadhur. It was established that passing the 150 metres, jockey Sooful switched his mount to the outside of Street Byte, resulting in Newsman shifting ground outwards onto Redwood Valley with the latter having to be taken out to continue going forward. The Stewards, being of the opinion that jockey Orffer never stopped riding his mount and merely had to switch his mount outwards to continue going forward and thereafter never made ground on Newsman over the concluding stages, decided to dismiss the objection.

Secondly, by jockey Sooful, the rider of Newsman, which was declared 2nd, against Street Byte (M. Sonaram) being declared the winner, alleging interference in the final straight. Evidence was taken from both riders, trainer C. Daby and assistant trainer S. Gujadhur. It was established that near the 150 metres Street Byte, when being ridden with the whip in the left hand, had shifted ground inwards marginally with apprentice Sonaram putting his whip away and straightening his mount, at the same time Newsman, which was being taken out from behind Artax, which had shifted ground inwards, was switched to the outside of Street Byte to continue going forward. The Stewards, being of the opinion that there was sufficient room between Street Byte and Artax to improve into, had every opportunity to secure the run and that jockey Sooful had anticipated the gap to close and taken his mount out, dismissed the objection and correct weight was declared on the Judges’ semaphored numbers.

Sentido – Passing the 300 metres was cramped for room on the inside of Artax and brushed the running rail. Vet report: Lame near fore.

Come On Sonny – Vet report: Lame off hind.

Epic Sword – Slow to begin.

Redwood Valley – From its wide draw was taken across to race behind runners. Carried wide from the 450 metres. Carried out passing the 200 metres.

Street Byte – In the early stages of the home straight, when being ridden with the whip in the left hand, commenced to shift ground inwards with apprentice Sonaram putting his whip away and straightening his mount.

Newsman – Slow to begin. Passing the 450 metres was switched to the outside of Come On Sonny to improve its position and, in doing so, carried Redwood Valley wider on the track. Leaving the 250 metres was switched to the inside of Artax to secure clear running, at the same time Artax commenced to shift ground inwards, resulting in Newsman having to be switched to its outside to secure clear running. Approaching the 200 metres was switched to the outside of Street Byte to secure clear running and, in doing so, inconvenienced Redwood Valley, which was improving on its outside, carrying the latter outwards on the track.

King’s Story – Jumped awkwardly, brushed the right side of its gate and was slow to begin.

Bonjour Baby – Raced wide throughout.

Driven Force – Hung in over the concluding stages, was slightly inconvenienced and had to be switched out when Ocean Drive South shifted ground outwards marginally.

Bollinger – Slow to begin. Approaching the 1200 metres had to be checked when cramped for room on the inside of Double Games. Leaving the 800 metres had to be eased to avoid the heels of Double Games, which had been taken in. Near the 150 metres was switched to the inside of Double Games to continue going forward. When questioned regarding the poor performance of Bollinger, jockey Aucharuz explained that this gelding had travelled well in the back straight and passing the 250 metres failed to quicken, being disappointing.

Double Games – Taken in near the 1200 metres, inconveniencing Bollinger.

Lagacio – Slow to begin. Passing the 400 metres was switched to the outside of Driven Force to improve its position and raced wide from then onwards.

Ocean Drive South – Slow to begin.

GENERAL

On inquiry, jockey Fayd’herbe (Double Games) pleaded guilty to a charge under MTC Rule 160 A (f) in that passing the 1200 metres he carelessly took his mount in when insufficiently clear of Bollinger, which was racing on his inside, resulting in the latter becoming cramped for room and having to be checked. He was suspended from riding in races for one Mauritian race meeting.

Acting on veterinary advice that Vision Of Trust was lame on its near fore leg, the Stewards ordered its withdrawal at 9 a.m. today. In view of this, all bets on Vision Of Trust were ordered to be refunded and fixed odds betting was re-opened.

The Stewards approved jockey S. Rama as the rider of Power Tower in replacement of jockey D. Bheekary, who was unable to ride at the carded weight of 56.5 kg. An inquiry will be held on Tuesday morning.

Split The Breeze – Slow to begin and was then taken across to race behind runners.

Bonnie Prince – Carried inwards passing the 1300 metres.

Carlas Mambo – Raced wide throughout. Leaving the 900 metres was urged forward to race closer to the lead. Approaching the 600 metres, when unable to secure the lead, jockey Aucharuz restrained his mount and secured the position one off the rail on the outside of Silver Heritage. Leaving the 200 metres was switched to the outside of runners to obtain clear running and, in doing so, carried Bonnie Prince wider on the track. Over the concluding stages, when being ridden with the whip in the left hand, shied away and shifted inwards. When questioned, jockey Aucharuz explained that he was instructed to endeavour to achieve the lead, after jumping awkwardly and urging his mount forward he realised that there were faster horses on his inside, as such he elected to settle his mount mid-field and was caught 3-wide without cover. He added that approaching the 900 metres, being of the opinion that the pace was not a fast one, he elected to urge his mount forward in an attempt to secure the lead, however King Of Tara and Kingsman, which were racing on his inside improved at the same time, resulting in him not being able to achieve the lead, He also said that approaching the 600 metres, seeing that a gap had formed between King Of Tara and Bonnie Prince, he elected to settle his mount behind King Of Tara. He further added that when asked for an effort Carlas Mambo stayed one paced in the home straight and, over the concluding stages, had to switch his mount to the outside of runners to continue going forward.

Candy Apple – Slow to begin. Came off the crossing at the 450 metres awkwardly.

Silver Heritage – Jumped awkwardly, shifted ground outwards, carrying Bonnie Prince outwards. Passing the 1300 metres was momentarily tightened on the inside of Bonnie Prince, which was in turn carried inwards by King Of Tara.

Kingsman – Slow to begin. Laid out in the early stages of the home straight, slightly inconveniencing Silver Heritage and carrying the latter outwards.

Power Tower – Was switched to the outside of runners leaving the 450 metres and raced wide from then onwards.

Correct weight was withheld for the Stewards to view the final straight and to consider an objection lodged by jockey N. Juglall, the rider of Paddingtons Luck, being declared 2nd, against Moschino, being declared the winner, alleging interference in the final straight. Evidence was taken from both riders, trainer V. Allet and assistant trainer P. Seesurrun. The Stewards, taking into account the degree of inconvenience suffered by Paddingtons Luck and the margin at the finish, were satisfied that Paddingtons Luck would not have finished ahead of Moschino, as such decided to dismiss the objection and the correct weight was declared on the Judges’ semaphored numbers.
