Black Caviar arrives safely at Newmarket

Trainer Peter Moody has received a glowing report on the condition of champion mare Black Cavier following her safe arrival at Newmarket in England. Moody was concerned how Black Caviar   would cope with her first experience of air travel, especially when it involved 30 hours flight time with two stops in SIngapore and Sharjah.

He was thrilled to learn from the team that travelled with the unbeaten mare that she had handled the flight like a seasoned jet-setter. The five-year-old daughter of Bel Esprit touched down at Heathrow in London around 2am on Friday and was then floated to Newmarket. She arrived at her stable at 6.15am completing a 33-hour journey from her Caulfield box.

Veterinarian Peter Angus and stable foreman Tony Haydon travelled with Black Caviar with Moody keeping in contact with the pair during the flight. “It's a big relief,” Moody reported after being told she had arrived safely at Newmarket. “I spoke to the boys along the way and they were all very happy. "They reported that her fluid intake was very good on the flight, which is important, and she grazed all the way. “After being a little bit flighty initially when they loaded her in Melbourne they said the further she went the better she became.“The next 48 hours is crucial to everything. You want to see her get right on her food and get plenty of fluids into her."

Moody said it seemed Black Caviar had appreciated the use of the revolutionary full-body compression suit during her flight. “The boy's don't know if it helped, but it certainly didn't hurt,” Moody said. “It certainly didn't hinder her and if it's afforded her any help in the way she's travelled it's worked."

Moody will give Black Caviar the weekend to recover from her flight before she is saddled for exercise. Moody will fly to the UK late next week to prepare Black Caviar for her international debut in the Diamond Jubilee Stakes (1200m) at Royal Ascot on June 23 when she will be shooting for her 22nd straight victory.
