Stewards' Report

Jockey A. Balloo, being injured, the Stewards approved jockey N. Teeha as the replacement rider on Spin A Coin.

Chap Trap – Near the 150 metres was carried out by Seven Carat, which was inclined to shift out and near the 75 metres shifted in away from Never Fear on its outside and steadied away from the heels of Seven Carat.

Dante’s Rock – Leaving the 250 metres, for some distance, failed to secure clear running and approaching the 200 metres was taken to the inside of Charles My Boy to secure clear running. Near the 100 metres was taken out from behind Never Fear to continue going forward.

Silver Rock – Unsettled in the barrier prior to the start. Had its head on the side at the start, jumped awkwardly and was slow to begin. Was taken out from approaching the 450 metres. Brushed on straightening.

Seven Carat – When questioned with regard to the apparent improved performance of this gelding, trainer S. Narang explained that it was racing for the second week in a row. He said that this gelding usually races better when able to dictate its pace and that last week, not being able to secure the lead and being caught on the outside of the leader, resulted in it fading over the concluding stages. He believed that Seven Carat had improved after that run and according to him, the fact that it was racing in weaker company today and managed to dictate its own pace had accounted to its improved performance. He also said that although it was expected to run a better race, he did not expect Seven Carat to win and that the connections had been advised accordingly.

Atahada – At the 1000 metres steadied away from the heels of Never Fear. Commenced to give ground passing the 450 metres and steadied near the 450 metres when Spin A Coin rolled inwards.

Carson City – Bumped and checked shortly after the start.

Charles My Boy – Slow to begin.

Bishops Crown - Slow to begin.

Never Fear – Shortly after the start was bumped and interfered with when Dante’s Rock shifted in. Raced wide in the early stages.

GENERAL

On inquiry, jockey Ramsamy (Dante’s Rock) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MTC Rule 160 A (f) for allowing his mount to shift in shortly after the start when not clear, bumping and inconveniencing Never Fear, which then shifted in, bumping Carson City. Jockey Ramsamy was suspended from riding in races for one Mauritian race meeting.
