Stewards' Report

Correct weight was withheld for Stewards to consider two objections lodged by jockey Placais, the rider of Yankeedoodledandy, which finished 3rd, against Crazy Vision, being declared the winner, and Tower Of Wisdom, being declared 2nd, alleging interference in the home straight (Tower of Wisdom: 0.20 length and Yankeedoodledandy: 0.50 length). Evidence was taken from the riders and trainers concerned. It was established that near the 150 metres Crazy Vision was taken to the inside of Pride Rock to secure clear running and brushed Yankeedoodledandy with the latter then shifting inwards onto the heels of Tower Of Wisdom. Yankeedoodledandy then had to be taken to the inside of Tower Of Wisdom to continue going forward. The Stewards, being of the opinion that albeit there was contact between Crazy Vision, which had improved from behind, and Yankeedoodledandy, forcing the latter inwards onto the heels of with Tower Of Wisdom with Yankeedoodledandy having to be switched to the inside of Tower Of Wisdom to continue going forward, were satisfied that Yankeedoodledandy had secured clear running from the 100 metres until the finish, and that this horse failed to make sufficient ground onto the winner for the objection to be upheld in the closing stages. In relation to 2nd placed horse, the Stewards being of the opinion that Yankeedoodledandy, after having been brushed by Crazy Vision, shifted in onto the heels of Tower Of Wisdom, which at that point had kept a straight line, as such regarded this part of the objection as unwarranted and decided to dismiss it; correct weight was declared on the Judges’ semaphored numbers.

Burg – Jumped awkwardly, shifted out and bumped Tower Of Wisdom. Shifted out in the home straight.

Crazy Vision – Threw its head on jumping. From its wide draw, was taken across to race behind runners. Angled inwards for a clear run leaving the 200 metres and brushed Yankeedoodledandy. Vet report: Bled both nostrils.

Yankeedoodledandy - Brushed and carried inwards near the 150 metres. Near the 100 metres was switched to the inside of Tower Of Wisdom to continue going forward.

West Coast Warrior – Dipped leaving the 450 metres. Carried outwards in the home straight.

Harlan County – From leaving the 400 metres commenced to give ground. Vet report: Not striding out.

GENERAL

a) On inquiry, jockey Horil (Crazy Vision) pleaded guilty to a charge under MTC Rule 160 A (f) in that leaving the 200 metres he carelessly took his mount to the inside of Pride Rock and, in doing so, brushed Yankeedoodledandy, carrying the latter inwards onto the heels of Tower Of Wisdom with Yankeedoodledandy having to be taken further in to secure clear running. He was suspended from riding in races for one Mauritian race meeting.

b) On inquiry, jockey Sola (Burg) pleaded guilty to a charge under MTC Rule 160 A (f) in that leaving the 200 metres he carelessly allowed his mount to shift out under pressure, carrying West Coast Warrior, which was improving on its outside, outwards, inconveniencing the latter over approximately 100 metres. He was suspended from riding in races for one Mauritian race meeting.

Result: 1st: Crazy Vision, 2nd: Tower Of Wisdom, 3rd: Yankeedoodledandy, 4th: West Coast Warrior.

Bonnie Prince – Near the 150 metres commenced to shift in under pressure, resulting in Ernie becoming inconvenienced near the 100 metres.

GENERAL

a) On inquiry, jockey Horil (Bonnie Prince) pleaded guilty to a charge under MTC Rule 160 A (d) for failing to take the necessary steps to ensure that near the 150 metres his mount did not intimidate Ernie, resulting in the latter being inconvenienced and its rider having to stop riding for one stride. He was suspended from riding in races for one Mauritian race meeting, this suspension to run concurrently with the one incurred in race 4.

b) When questioned, jockey Ségeon (Ernie) explained that this gelding usually races from off the pace but for today’s race, due to the lack of speed, he was told to endeavour to race closer to the pace. He added that after jumping well, he found himself racing in a forward position and seeing that Chili Con Carne and Bonnie Prince were insisting for the lead, he decided to settle his mount just behind the pace. He also said that being of the opinion that these two horses were going too hard in the early stages and taking into consideration that his mount is a hard puller, he decided not to niggle it forward leaving the 1100 metres when the gap had widened between himself and the leaders as Ernie was racing well within itself in a relaxed manner. He added that from the 700 metres the pace slowed, resulting in him having to settle his mount when awkwardly placed closed to the heels of Chili Con Carne.

Result: 1st: Ideal Secret, 2nd: Ready To Attack, 3rd: Chili Con Carne, 4th: Bonnie Prince.
