Stewards' Report

Blue Jeans- Slow to begin.

Bear Hug- Slow to begin. Leaving the 300 metres, for some distance, was held up when unable to improve from behind Silver Rock and Blue Jeans. Had difficulty securing clear running in the early stages of the home straight. Leaving the 200 metres, was switched to the inside of horses to secure clear running.

Napoli- Raced wide throughout.

Starsky- Contacted with Eight Cities on jumping. Over-raced in the early and middle stages.

Eight Cities- Contacted with Starsky on jumping. Approaching the 200 metres, when being ridden with the whip, hung out, inconveniencing Silver Rock on it’s outside. Jockey David was shown video replays of this incident, was severely reprimanded, and told that he is to make every effort to straighten his mounts when they shift ground in future. Vet Report: Injury to its near-fore leg.

Silver Rock- Threw its head and was slow to begin. Carried onto Redwood Valley shortly after. Near the 1300 metres, ran out of galloping room on the inside of Social Network and had to be checked. Leaving the 250 metres, was angled inwards to secure clear running. Near the 200 metres, was inconvenienced and had to be steadied to avoid the heels of Eight Cities.

Redwood Valley- Near the 200 metres, was switched to the outside of horses to secure clear running.

Social Network- Jumped outwards, carrying Silver Rock onto Redwood Valley.

GENERAL

On inquiry, jockey Bheekary (Social Network) pleaded guilty to a breach of MTC Rule 160 (A) (f) in that near the 1300 metres, he carelessly allowed his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of Silver Rock (S.Bussunt), resulting in the latter running out of galloping room and having to be checked. He was suspended from riding in races for one Mauritian race meeting.

Stewards' Report

Acting on veterinary advice that Iron Wolf was lame on its near fore leg, the Stewards ordered its withdrawal at 8 a.m. today. In view of this, all bets on Iron Wolf were ordered to be refunded and betting with bookmakers was re-opened.



Pop The Question - Standing awkwardly in its gate, being slow to begin. Leaving the 200 metres, was switched to the inside of Anton Ruskin, and endeavoured to improve through a tight gap between Anton Ruskin and Student Grant, bumping with Student Grant on a number of occasions. Over the concluding stages, was inconvenienced and had to be steadied, when awkwardly placed close to the heels of Jet Path, which had shifted out under pressure.



Newsman - Slow to begin.



Jet Path - Jumped awkwardly and shifted out, inconveniencing Newsman. Shifted out under pressure over the concluding stages.



Sir Cliff - Raced wide throughout.



Student Grant - Approaching the 900 metres, was taken out from behind Jet Path and bumped Till Dawn, carrying the latter outwards.



Till Dawn - Bumped and carried outwards near the 900 metres.



Anton Ruskin - Raced wide in the early and middle stages. Leaving the 900 metres, was taken out to improve its position to race closer to the rails. In the early stages of the home straight, hung in under pressure.



GENERAL



(a) On inquiry, it was established that leaving the 1000 metres, when Till Dawn improved on the outside of Student Grant, the latter commenced to race fiercely, and eventually became awkwardly placed to the heels of Jet Path. Jockey Bheekary (Student Grant) then angled his mount outwards to avoid the heels of Jet Path and, in doing so, raced tightly onto Till Dawn over some distance, carrying the latter outwards. Under these circumstances, the Stewards decided to report the matter as a racing incident.



(b) On inquiry, jockey Holland (Pop The Question) pleaded guilty to a breach of MTC Rule 160 A (d) in that near the 150 metres, he failed to take the necessary steps to ensure that he did not jostle Student Grant in that he angled his mount inwards and forced his way into a tight gap between Anton Ruskin and Student Grant, jostling the latter on several occasions, with Student Grant becoming unbalanced. He was fined Rs 25,000.

Prior to the running of this race, Streetbouncer was inspected by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon and passed fit to run.

Ocean Drive South- Raced wide from the 450 metres onwards. Hung in over the concluding 150 metres.

Jals Tiger- Raced wide in the early stages. Hung in in the home straight.

Riding Shotgun- Jumped awkwardly and was slow into stride. Over-raced in the middle stages.

Secret Idea- Over-raced in the middle stages.

In Your Dreams- Standing awkwardly in its gate and was slow to begin.

Greenflashsunset- Slow to begin. Raced ungenerously in the early and middle stages, throwing its head up when being settled.

Streetbouncer- From its wide draw, was taken across to race behind runners. Near the 150 metres, was switched to the inside of Sky High Flyer to secure clear running.



GENERAL

(a) When questioned, jockey Allyhosain (New Hampshire) explained that he was instructed to be positive out of the gates, and endeavor to secure a position close to the pace. Jockey Allyhosain explained that after jumping well, he asked his mount for an effort and that leaving the 1300 metres, seeing that Secret Idea was not insisting, he asked his mount for a further effort to secure the position ahead of Secret Idea. He added that his mount had a tendency to over-race and that from leaving the 600 metres, he dropped the bit and commenced to give ground, being somewhat disappointing. Vet Report – not striding out.



(b) When questioned, jockey Plaçais (Sky High Flyer) explained that he was instructed to secure a position in midfield. From draw 7, he asked his mount for an effort in order to achieve his instructions and that passing the 1300 metres, he found himself racing wide. As such, he had no option but to ask his mount for a further effort to endevear to secure a position closer to the rails. He added that in doing so, he found himself racing in a more forward position than he anticipated.

Prior to the running of this race, Yankeedoodledandy was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon and passed fit to run.

Alshibaa- From its wide draw, was taken across to race behind runners. Leaving the 250 metres, had to be switched to the outside of Euroklidon to secure clear running.

I Travel Light- From its wide draw, was taken across to race behind runners. Over the concluding stages, had to be switched to the inside of Red Line Captain to continue going forward.

Moonrise Sensation- Carried wide approaching the 450 metres.

Yankeedoodledandy- Passing the 450 metres, was taken out from behind Euroklidon to improve its position and in doing so, carried Moonrise Sensation wider on the track.

Inn A Million- Fractious in its gate prior to the start. Jumped awkwardly and was slow to begin. Near the 75 metres, had to be switched to the inside of Declarator to continue going forward.

Talbec- From its wide draw, was taken across to race behind runners. Raced wide in the early and middle stages.

Alpha Pegasi- Slow to begin.

Euroklidon- Commenced to give ground from the 450 metres onwards.



GENERAL

When questioned, jockey Holland (Alshibaa) explained that from its wide draw, he was instructed to endeavor to his take his mount back and wait for the inside run. He added that near the 250 metres, seeing that Inn A Million, which was racing in front of him, was going for the inside run, he elected to switch his mount out to get clear running, and as soon as he commenced to make ground, Euroklidon shifted out under pressure, resulting in him having to go further wide to secure clear running.

Karraar- Failed to muster speed when being urged forward after the start. Near the 1200 metres, was taken in to secure a position along the rails.

Yankee Captain- Slow to begin. Hung in over the concluding stages, with jockey Juglall switching his whip to his right hand passing the 50 metres.

Ernie- Near the 150 metres, was switched to the inside of Prince Of Thieves to continue going forward.

Prince Of Thieves- Leaving the 1300 metres, was cramped for room on the inside of Speed Limit and had to be checked, losing its position. Approaching the 450 metres, was taken out from behind Speed Limit to improve its position and raced wide from then onwards.

Speed Limit- Fractious in its barrier prior to the start. Jumped awkwardly and was slow to begin. Dropped the bit approaching the 450 metres and had to be urged forward to keep up with the field.

GENERAL

On inquiry, it was established that leaving the 1300 metres, Prince Of Thieves, which had been slow at the start and was endeavoring to improve into a gap between Speed Limit and Ernie, became cramped for room when Black Cat Back shifted inwards, despite jockey Plaçais’ attempts to straighten, carrying Speed Limit inwards, with Speed Limit crowding Prince Of Thieves. The Stewards being of the opinion that Black Cat Back, which was having its first run in Mauritius, shifted in on its own accord and that Prince Of Thieves did not have enough speed to secure a position in that gap, decided not to proceed, but to report the matter as a racing incident.

White River- Near the 100 metres, shied away from the whip of jockey Holland (Pera Palace) and shifted out, carrying Kazaar outwards.

Kazaar- Taken outwards near the 100 metres.

Pera Palace- Came off the crossing the 1000 metres awkwardly and took an awkward stride

When cantering down to the start, Texas Sky bolted, jockey Reis was able to rein it in at the 450 metre mark. It was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon and passed fit to run.

Midnight Oracle brushed the outside rail with its hip. It was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon and passed fit to run.



Texas Sky- Hung in in the early stages of the home straight.

Viking Trail- Jumped outwards, and made contact with Jullidar on its hindquarter. Jockey Chisty dropped his whip near the 150 metres.

Midnight Oracle- Raced wide throughout.

The Brass Bell- Stood flat-footed and was slow to begin. Shortly after, was taken across to race behind runners.

Aspara- Stood flat-footed and was slow to begin. Near the 150 metres, was switched to the inside of Texas Sky to continue going forward.

Jullidar- Contacted on its hindquarter shortly after the start. Leaving the 450 metres, was taken out and raced very wide rounding the home turn. Carried further wide at the 350 metres.

Kings Empire- Near the 350 metres, was taken out to improve its position and carried Jullidar wider on the track.

The start was delayed when Northern Rebel proved very difficult to load.



A P Strike- Approaching the 400 metres, was taken out to improve its position and raced wide from then onwards.

Gordonstoun- Standing awkwardly in its gate, and was slow to begin. Approaching the 200 metres, was switched to the inside of Philosopher to secure clear running and in doing so, cramped Torpedo Officer on its inside.

Northern Rebel- Stood flat-footed and was slow to begin.

Due Volte- Raced wide from the 600 metres onwards.

Philosopher- Jockey Bussunt’s saddle slipped at the 600 metres.

Roman Dancer- Fractious in its barrier prior to the start.

Flying Arrow- Fractious in its barrier prior to the start. Jumped awkwardly and was slow to begin. Raced wide from the 600 metres onwards.

Torpedo Officer- Came off the crossing the 450 metres awkwardly and stumbled shortly after. Near the 200 metres, was crowded for room on the inside of Gordonstoun and had to be steadied.

GENERAL

On inquiry, jockey Reis (Gordonstoun) pleaded guilty to a breach of MTC Rule 160 A (d) for failing to take the necessary steps to ensure that his mount did not interfere with another runner in that near the 200 metres, he took his mount abruptly, resulting in Torpedo Officer (D.Holland) being cramped for room and having to momentarily ease his mount. He was fined Rs 25,000.
