Race 1

The vote is given to EK THA TIGER in this opening contest. He ran into misfortune in his last start, as he did not have a clear run in the final straight. He will be looking for payback and having done well in his workouts, he can strike. Smitten has consistently improved in his last three races. He went really close in his last outing and has a solid chance of going one better in this lower class. The veteran Steel Of Approval ran a cracker in race meeting 24, scoring his first win of the season. He represents a trainer that has found form and he merits close attention. Blizzard Of Ozz has fully recovered from last time, when he suffered a bleeding attack. He showed no problems at track work and merits shortlist inclusion. Contenders for the lower placings include Kings Advisor and City Treasurer.

Our Favourite: EK THA TIGER

The Dangers: Smitten, Steel Of Approval, Blizzard Of Ozz

Race 2

JAMBAMMAN is the shining star of Randhir Pertaub’s yard. This four year-old completed a hat-trick of wins in his latest and such is his current form, he will be very hard to beat. Gameloft has performed admirably since joining the yard of Shirish Narang. He produced his best performance on Mauritian turf last time out, coming home second behind the irresistible Torotino. Down a class, he warrants serious consideration here if he overcomes his bad draw. Craftsman is back from a rest. Freshened up and reunited with Vinay Naiko, he is given plenty of respect. Deux Fabuleax went close in his latest. Down a class and still in good nick, his claims look strong. Stable mate Acapella and Count Emmanuale are considered as good each-way bets.

Our Favourite: JAMBAMMAN

The Dangers: Gameloft, Craftsman, Deux Fabuleax

Race 3

PAPA JOE won with style in his latest, even if his jockey was self-critical of his ride. It is clear that he is an ace over the kilometre sprint and he has every chance of confirming. However, he won’t have things easy, with the presence of Lietuva in this short sprint. The latter scored a pillar to post in the Maiden Cup meeting, before repeating the trick in race meeting 26. He was blistering in his workouts and is not prevented from completing a hat-trick. Vincent Allet has some 1000 metres specialists in his yard, with Adi Star one of them. He has visited the winner’s enclosure twice this season, and even if he is trying his luck in a higher class, he won’t be that far away. The expected hot pace will benefit Cash Lord and he will be a big threat in the final stages. Act Of Valor and Piquet are two interesting outsiders with the good draws.

Our Favourite: PAPA JOE

The Dangers: Lietuva, Adi Star, Cash Lord

Race 4

The second kilometre sprint of the day looks very open on paper and it looks extremely tough to pick out a favourite, never mind some contenders!

Kimberly Al makes his debut for the leader of the Trainers’ standings. He has adapted well to his new surroundings and even won a barrier trial in mid-week. He did win over 1000 metres back in South Africa and he can show up here. His stable mate Sole Mio could only manage 4th place in his previous start. He is given another chance, as he is much better than that. He was very impressive at track work and a bold bid is forthcoming. Zhan Hu has very good form over this trip and none was more apparent when he took the honors in the Group 3 Lightning Cup in July. He has not come close to confirming since, but he has rediscovered his mojo and he must be taken seriously here. Lake Geneva may have only raced twice this season, but he has finished on the final podium step in both outings. He has come out very well from a long rest and enters calculations here. Tandragee is given another chance after unfavorable circumstances in his latest. He is reunited with Noel Callow and it is worth noting that this partnership has two Group races on Mauritian turf. The only doubt against him is that he is running over a very sharp trip. Stable companion and champion horse RYDER CUP has winning form over this very short trip. Still winless this season, he can set the record straight with Nooresh Juglall on board. Last time winner Streetbouncer and Icy Jet – who was last seen in the winner’s enclosure in the 5th meeting – are both worth considering also.

Our Favourite: RYDER CUP

The Dangers: Sole Mio, Tandragee, Zhan Hu

Race 5

This Draper’s Mile contest features a lot of big names, who all boast rock-solid claims.

Top Jet is certainly one of them. For a moment, he looked likely to score in the Colonel Draper Cup, before settling for 3rd. This grey horse showed complete satisfaction in training and with Rye Joorawon banging in the wins, this is his best chance to finally score this season. Roman Manner’s last run must be ignored, as he was not ridden to satisfaction. His trainer did admit that he was in need of that run and it appears he has benefited hugely from it. NORDIC WARRIOR had no such problems two meetings back, winning with such ease. Still in top order, he can confirm. Rear Admiral has had a fine 2015, winning four times and being runner-up thrice. His connections think very highly of him and he can respond with another bold showing. Azapel and Seeking Angelo are both good place bets.

The Dangers: Roman Manner, Top Jet, Rear Admiral

The defending race winner Diamond Light will be looking to keep hold of this trophy and win the Stayers’ championship. He went close last time out and having excelled in training, the signs suggest that he can go one better. However, preference is for VETTEL, who is on a hat-trick. In very good nick, he looks a very tough nut to crack. Stable mate Bastille Day may have been second best to Seeking Angelo in his recent start, but it was still a solid display from him. This son of Var is in good shape and he will be a big threat with his powerful finish in the closing stages. Skippyjon Jones was on the podium in his latest. His claims are fully respected in this contest. For the minor placings, Pont d’Avignon and Parvecal are two good place bets.

Our Favourite: VETTEL

The Dangers: Diamond Light, Skippyjon Jones, Bastille Day

Race 7

Set off at generous odds last time out, EVERGREEN produced a big showing, completing a hat-trick of wins in the process. He remains in very top order and even if he is carrying  62 kg, he gets the vote here. His biggest danger is expected to be stable companion Ambassador Rex, who justified his status as favourite in his previous run, snapping a winless drought dating back to December 2013. He looks to be on good terms with himself now and he looks a major factor here with Nooresh Juglall. Freedom will relish running in this category. He has regained the form, which saw him go very close numerous times earlier this season, and he should show up with Darryl Holland in the saddle. Harba would have been better off running over longer, but he should make the frame, while recent winner Halabaloo, and Shoddy Nick – who is down numerous categories – are rated as good place bets.

Our Favourite: EVERGREEN

The Dangers: Freedom, Harba, Halabaloo

Race 8

Roving Consort found one better in the name of Billy Bojangles in his recent start. Well-trained, he can make amends here. Don’t Tell Mama ran a cracker in race meeting 28, opening her account for the season. This filly remains in top shape and the vote is given to her to make it a double. BIG LION’s last race was the centre of attention. He is running over shorter this time round and if ridden well, he will be hard to match. Van Der Scaler and Joyful – ridden by Darryl Holland – are two decent outsiders.

Our Favourite: BIG LION

The Dangers: Roving Consort, Don’t Tell Mama, Van Der Scaler
