Alberts Day, which was standing awkwardly in its gate, hesitated on jumping and was slow out. Seven Carat fly-jumped and shifted out. Arrowhead jumped awkwardly and shifted in, with both horses crowding Eastward Bound and Black Gambit. Hunting Time raced wide without cover in the early and middle stages. When questioned, apprentice Ramgopal (Hunting Time) explained that from approaching the 1200 metres, Seven Carat, which was racing on his inside, was awkward close to the heels of Tiger Master, as such he elected to keep his mount in a 3-wide position to allow room to Seven Carat. Apprentice Ramgopal was told to endeavour to keep his horses closer to runners on his inside in future. Leaving the 1100 metres Seven Carat, which was over-racing, threw its head when being steadied when awkward close to the heels of Tiger Master and raced ungenerously for some distance. Brandewyn was taken out from leaving the 500 metres and passing the 450 metres Marine Sky was taken out to improve its position and carried Brandewyn wider on the track. Leaving the 200 metres Eastward Bound, which was hanging in under pressure, was taken to the inside of Black Gambit, which shifted out slightly under pressure. From leaving the 150 metres Eastward Bound commenced to shift in, crowding Alberts Day, which was improving on its inside near the 100 metres, with Alberts Day having to be eased and taken out to avoid its heels. At an inquiry into this incident, apprentice Teetan (Eastward Bound) pleaded guilty to a charge under MTC Rule 160 A (e) for careless riding and was suspended from riding in two races reserved for Mauritian riders. When questioned with regard to the improved performance of Tiger Master, trainer Ramdin explained that in his opinion, at its first outing this season, jockey Sooful may have asked this gelding for too much of an effort in the early stages of the race, resulting in the gelding fading badly over the concluding stages. For today’s race, with a run under its belt and having pleased in the lead up to the race, he was confident of a better showing from Tiger Master. Jockey Rama (Tiger Master) lost the use of his off side rein over the concluding stages. Jockey Rama was shown the video replays of the final straight and told that he should ride all his mounts out to the finish. The Club’s Veterinary Surgeon reported that Hunting Time suffered a bleeding attack, that Marine Sky was lame on the off fore leg and that an endoscopic examination of Arrowhead revealed blood in its trachea. When questioned with regard to the poor performance of Seven Carat, jockey Ghunowa explained that the gelding had pleased in the lead up to the race and that he was instructed to lead, however he was unable to do so and decided to settle his mount just behind the leader. He added that Seven Carat commenced to race fiercely leaving the 1100 metres and when asked for an effort leaving 400 metres failed to quicken and was very disappointing.

Routine urine and blood specimens were taken for analysis from Tiger Master after the race.

Harba was slow to begin. From approaching the 1300 metres, when being settled, Captain’s Cronicle commenced to over-race, threw its head and raced ungenerously for some distance. Direct Approach raced wide from leaving the 900 metres. When questioned, jockey Bohorun explained that from leaving the 1000 metres Direct Approach commenced to lay out badly despite his attempt to bring the gelding back in, having some difficulty in negotiating the turn at the 900 metres. He added that he did so until approaching the 600 metres when it changed legs and shifted back in. He further added that when asked for an effort leaving the 450 metres Direct Approach hung out badly and failed to quicken. A subsequent veterinary examination of this gelding revealed that it was lame on the off fore leg. Seven Fountains was taken out from approaching the 400 metres and raced wide rounding the home turn. Approaching the 300 metres Lividus was taken out from behind Captain’s Cronicle to improve its position and, in doing so, crowded Harba, which was improving into a gap between Lividus and Esteco with Harba having to be taken to the inside of Lividus to continue going forward. At an inquiry into this incident, jockey Ghunowa (Lividus) pleaded guilty to a charge under MTC Rule 160 A (d) for failing to ensure that he did take the necessary steps to prevent his mount from crossing Harba, inconveniencing the latter. He was fined Rs.25,000. Leaving the 200 metres Captain’s Cronicle shifted in under pressure slightly, Shoddy Nick, which was following, had to be taken in to continue going forward. The Club’s Veterinary Surgeon reported that Direct Approach was lame on the near fore leg.

Pierneef jumped awkwardly and shifted in. Leaving the 1365 metres Kimberly Al had to be eased to avoid the heels of Chinese Gold when the latter shifted in when insufficiently clear. At an inquiry into this incident, jockey Joorawon (Chinese Gold) pleaded guilty to a charge under MTC Rule 160 A (e) for careless riding and was suspended from riding in races for two Mauritian race meetings, however after taking into consideration that jockey Joorawon has a good record under this rule, he was suspended for only one Mauritian race-meeting. When questioned, jockey David (Kimberly Al) explained that leaving the 1100 metres he realised there was a gap between Streetbouncer and Lucky Valentine, as such he endeavoured to let his mount stride forward to secure a position behind Streetbouncer, however while improving on the outside of Lucky Valentine, the latter picked up the bit, moved forward and at the same time Streetbouncer was being restrained, therefore bridging the gap. He added that entering the back straight Kimberly Al started to over-race, as such he elected to let the latter stride forward to secure the lead. The Club’s Veterinary Surgeon reported that Kimberly Al cast its off fore shoe during the run.

Routine urine and blood specimens were taken for analysis from Chinese Gold after the race.

Following the running of the race, the Stewards sounded the inquiry sign and under Rule 172 lodged an objection on behalf of jockey Neisius, the rider of King Neptune, being declared 4th, against Hot Rocket, being declared 3rd, alleging interference in the final straight. After taking evidence from both riders and trainers, it was established that from leaving the 200 metres Hot Rocket shifted in under pressure and approaching the 100 metres crowded King Neptune, which was improving on its inside with jockey Neisius having to ease his mount to avoid the heels of Hot Rocket. The Stewards, being satisfied that even without that interference King Neptune would not have finished in front of Hot Rocket, as such the objection was dismissed and correct weight was declared on the Judges’ semaphored numbers. At an inquiry into this incident, jockey Bussunt (Hot Rocket) pleaded guilty to a charge under MTC Rule 160 A (e) for careless riding and was suspended from riding in races for two Mauritian race meetings.
