Sideliner jumped with its head up and was slow out. Carcassonne jumped awkwardly. Space Man jumped awkwardly and rolled out shortly after the start. Carcassonne and The Sneaker raced wide throughout. Sideliner was taken out from approaching the 450 metres to close off the race and raced wide from then onwards. Leaving the 400 metres when put under pressure The Sneaker had a tendency to lay in, and leaving the 300 metres rolled in, crowding Moot Call onto What Price with Moot Call then being turned sideways. Following this, The Sneaker continued to hang in and near the 100 metres rolled in again, crowding Moot Call, which shifted inwards onto the heels of Space Man. Jockey Ghunowa was shown the video of the incident and told to make more of an effort to straighten his mounts when they shift ground. Leaving the 250 metres, when put under pressure, Indigo Blue rolled out and clipped the heels of Waterside Jet and stumbled. Jockey S. Bhundoo was questioned with regard to the poor performance of Space Man. He explained that from his good draw he was instructed to endeavour to jump and lead and if there was a horse faster than him not to insist and settle his mount behind the latter on the rails. He explained that after jumping well he asked his mount for an effort in view to secure the lead but Waterside Jet on his inside was faster than him, he then elected to settle his mount behind it. He added that Space Man raced keen in the early stages of the race and leaving the 1200 metres when Carcassonne and Indigo Blue went round him, his mount dropped the bit and from then onwards never felt comfortable. He also said that approaching the 400 metres, when asked for an effort, Space Man did not respond and was disappointing in the home straight. A veterinary examination of Space Man revealed no apparent abnormality. Jockey Bussunt was warned for making a celebratory gesture in an excessive manner passing the winning post. He apologised for his conduct

Routine urine and blood specimens were taken for analysis from Carcassonne after the race.

Up Company and Fort Noble were slow to begin. Snappy raced wide in the early stages. Leaving the 1300 metres Mr Wolf was eased to secure the position on the rails behind Beach Club. Leaving the 1000 metres Snappy had a tendency to over-race and, when being settled, threw its head and rolled in slightly. Approaching the 450 metres Mr Wolf was crowded for room and lost its position. Up Company, which was following, was inconvenienced and when being steadied, shifted out, carrying Camden’s Choice and Match Play wider on the track. At an inquiry into this incident jockey Burke was advised to allow more room to horses on his inside. Approaching the 400 metres Snappy dipped. Leaving the 250 metres Up Company was taken out from behind Camden’s Choice to continue going forward, resulting in Match Play, which was following, becoming inconvenienced, clipping its heels and stumbling.

Routine urine and blood specimens were taken for analysis from Beach Club after the race.

Communiqué des commissaires (en version originale)

After the running of the race, jockey Morgenrood, the rider of the 2nd placed horse, How Many To Won, sought permission to watch the film of the home straight, He subsequently decided to lodge an objection against Traiainus being declared the winner. The Stewards inquired into his objection. After taking evidence from both riders and trainers and viewing the video of the final straight, the objection was dismissed and correct weight declared on the Judges’ semaphored numbers. In arriving to this conclusion, the Stewards took into consideration that 1) Traiainus had come from behind How Many To Won and improved around it, 2) jockey Morgenrood never stopped riding his mount, 3) the beaten margin was of half a length, and 4) Traiainus was running away from How Many To Won in the final stages of the race.

Royal Times jumped awkwardly and shortly after was crowded by How Many To Won, which jumped inwards. Italian Lakes threw its head at the start. Royal Ransom and Electric Lightning were slow into stride. How Many To Won and Royal Times raced wide in the early stages with Royal Times being taken in to secure the position one off the rails behind Royal Ransom approaching the 1100 metres. Italian Lakes and Umhlanga raced wide throughout. Leaving the 200 metres Electric Lightning, which was improving on the inside of So Raven, was slightly inconvenienced when So Raven was taken in by Lividus, which had in turn been taken in from behind Powerful Gift to continue going forward.

Routine urine and blood specimens were taken for analysis from Traianius after the race.

Burberry jumped awkwardly, losing ground at the start. Accelero over-raced from leaving the 1100 metres and got its head up when being settled. Approaching the 100 metres Cheet Em All was held up when disappointed for a run between Dominion Legacy and Inside Out when Dominion Legacy started to lay in under pressure. Cheet Em All was then taken out from behind Dominion Legacy and later on from behind Single Tempo in order to secure clear running. Princely Reason lay in over the concluding stages, resulting in Cheet Em All, which was laying out, becoming awkward on its inside and having to be eased.

Always A Pleasure jumped awkwardly. Prince Paseo and Days Of Yore were slow out. Man Of His Word slipped at the start. Approaching the 200 metres Juanfra was taken in from behind Quiritus to continue going forward. Always A Pleasure was taken out from behind Prince Paseo to secure clear running. When questioned with regard to the improved performance of Prince Paseo, trainer V. Allet explained that at its last start this gelding raced over 1365 metres in a higher rating range and could have been in need of this run. He also said that following this race Prince Paseo had improved, although he felt that it was not at its peak yet. He added that today over 1000 metres and in a lower rating range, he expected it to run an improved race and as such was confident of a better run from this gelding.

Routine urine and blood specimens were taken for analysis from Prince Paseo after the race.

Communiqué des commissaires (en version originale)

Following the running of the race, the Stewards sounded the inquiry sign, viewed the video of the final straight and at the same time considered an objection lodged by apprentice Bardottier, the rider of Not Liable, which finished 3rd, against Eagle Squadron which finished 2nd, alleging interference in the final straight. It was established that approaching the 200 metres Eagle Squadron lay in under pressure, resulting in Not Liable, which was improving on its inside, being inconvenienced and having to be taken out to continue going forward. After taking evidence from both trainers and riders, the objection was upheld, the Stewards taking into consideration the margin at the finish, that Not Liable had legitimately took an inside run which thereafter closed as Eagle Squadron lay in under pressure with jockey Faucon having his whip in his left hand and the fact that, when crossing over, jockey Faucon was not two lengths clear as directed to the riders at the beginning of the season. The placings were altered to read: 1st: Legal Maxim, 2nd: Not Liable; 3rd: Eagle Squadron. At an inquiry into this incident, jockey Faucon was issued with a warning under MTC Rules 160 A (e) and told to make sure he is clear of horses before shifting ground.

At the start A Quiet Rush jumped outwards and brushed Not Liable. Legal Maxim and Iwannadance were slow to begin. Approaching the 1500 metres Legal Maxim was awkward when close of the heels of Not Liable and when being steadied got its head up for some distance. Approaching the 300 metres Not Liable was awkward when close to the heels of Eagle Squadron. Legal Maxim, which was following, was held up for a short distance when close to the heels of Not Liable. Approaching the 200 metres Eagle Squadron rolled in, resulting in Not Liable which was attempting a run on its inside becoming inconvenienced and having to be taken out to continue going forward. Over the concluding stages Eagle Squadron rolled in and brushed the running rails.

Routine urine and blood specimens were taken for analysis from Legal Maxim after the race.

Communiqué des commissaires (en version originale)

Acting on veterinary advice that Bastille Day was lame on the off fore fetlock and unfit to race, the Stewards ordered its withdrawal at 7.45 a.m. on Friday. All bets on Bastille Day were ordered to be refunded and betting with bookmakers was re-opened.

Joe’s Legacy jumped awkwardly and rolled out, bumping Double Dash, with Double Dash shifting out and inconveniencing Makes Me Wonder. Tigger jumped awkwardly. Mzingeli was slow to begin. Mzingeli and Cypress Express raced wide in the early and middle stages and approaching the 1000 metres were urged forward to race to the lead. Tigger and Sergeant Major raced wide from approaching the 450 metres. Approaching the 250 metres for some distance Makes Me Wonder was held up when unable to improve behind Joe’s Legacy and lay out under pressure over the last 100 metres. Leaving the 200 metres, when put under pressure, Mzingeli hung out and raced wide in the home straight.

Jockey Faucon was questioned with regard to the poor performance of Cypress Express. He explained that jumping from a wide draw, he was caught wide and raced wide without cover uphill and had a tendency to over-race, as such leaving the 1100 metres he decided to improve his position in order to secure a run on the rails. Down the back straight when Mzingeli cleared him, he was then able to obtain cover and leaving the 300 metres when asked for an effort this gelding did not quicken as expected and was disappointing. He added that, in his opinion, Cypress Express prefers to race with cover and the fact that it could not find cover, raced wide and ungenerously today, contributed to its poor performance. A subsequent veterinary examination of Cypress Express revealed no apparent abnormality.

Routine urine and blood specimens were taken for analysis from Sergeant Major & Cypress Express after the race.

2012-58 - THE STUDENT PRINCE PLATE.

Communiqué des commissaires (en version originale)

Shortly before the saddling of horses, trainer P. Merven informed the Stewards that he wished to change the race tactics used with Bali Mojo as this gelding was having its first run for his stable and that there was no real pacemaker, according to him, in this race. The Stewards took note and allowed this change of tactics for Bali Mojo.

Forbes was slow to begin. Salvador Dali jumped awkwardly. Cheerful News got its head up at the start. Leaving the 1400 metres Campus started to over-race and became awkward when close to the heels of Volacious, which was taken in to secure the position behind Bali Mojo, and when being steadied, Campus got its head up for some distance. Mac Mufti, which was following, was also inconvenienced when close to the heels of Campus and got its head up when being steadied. Jockey Ségeon was shown the video of this incident and told to make sure he is clear of horses before shifting ground. Forbes and Campus lay in in the home straight. When questioned in relation to Campus, trainer B. de Coriolis explained that Campus was running over 1600 metres, a distance which could prove a bit far for it. As it was jumping from a good draw, he instructed his jockey to endeavour to jump and secure a position closer to the pace and wait for the home straight for its best effort. Jockey Cahill confirmed these instructions and explained that after jumping well, he managed to clear the two horses on its inside and secure a position on the rails following the leader. Jockey Cahill further explained that for him to maintain a position behind the leader, he would have had to ask his mount for an effort and that it could have over-raced, which would have been counter-productive to its chances thereafter in the race, taking into consideration that it was racing over 1600 metres. He also added that jockey Ségeon had come in when not fully clear, forcing him to steady his mount. After consideration, their explanations were noted.

Routine urine and blood specimens were taken for analysis from Volacious after the race.
