Cirac and Grand Baie were slow to begin. Montante was slow into stride. King Tut jumped awkwardly, throwing its head. At the 850 metres Torero brushed the running rails. Saint John Bosco was taken wide from the 350 metres. At the 100 metres King Tut rolled out and carried Grand Baie onto Montante. At the 50 metres Grand Baie had to steady on the heels of King Tut which continued to shift out under pressure. Jockey Bundhoo, the rider of King Tut, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MTC Rule 160 A (e) and was subsequently suspended from riding in races for one Mauritian race meeting.

Jockey Burke, the rider of Count Emmanuale, was dislodged on the way to the barrier, delaying the start. Shortly after the start Destinys Tale dipped, rolled out and carried Keep Walking onto Mr Oshkosh. Mr Oshkosh was then steadied and taken back to obtain a position closer to the rails. Destinys Tale raced wide throughout. At the 700 metres Democratic Man steadied when awkward on the inside of Golden Sheik, which was laying in away from Destinys Tale. Approaching the home turn Ek Tha Tiger was held up when unable to improve on the inside of Big Lion. Democratic Man was taken wide from the 350 metres. Ek Tha Tiger lay in in the home straight and at the 75 metres its rider put his whip through to his right hand.

Midnight Master was slow to begin. Tigger was slow into stride. Colour Quest hesitated at the start, losing considerable ground. Bayard jumped awkwardly, shifted ground and bumped the hindquarters of Celestial Wind. Midnight Master commenced to over-race leaving the 1000 metres and at the 900 metres had to be checked when unable to improve between Deux Fabuleax and Catch The Gers. At the 700 metres The Balladeer, after improving around Celestial Wind, carried Aspen Emperor momentarily wider on the track. Aspen Emperor then improved to go forward of The Balladeer. The Clubs Veterinary Surgeon reported that Tigger suffered a bleeding attack.

At the 1250 metres Sheriff Marshall steadied when awkward on the inside of Monsieur Dane, which in turn was tight on the inside of Dee Major. Maverick raced wide in the early stages. Sands Of Fire was taken wide from the 350 metres. Variant was taken wide on straightening.

As jockey Bhaugeerothee was found to be over-weight, the Stewards gave permission that he be replaced by jockey R. Joorawon as the rider of Alvaro. Jockey Bhaugeerothee pleaded guilty under Rule 111 (3) for accepting a ride for which he was found to be overweight. He was subsequently fined Rs.5,000.
Istiqraar jumped awkwardly, throwing its head. Lake Geneva and Alvaro were slow to begin. Istiqraar was inclined to over-race in the early stages. Because U Said So over-raced down the back straight and was inclined to shift ground. At the 700 metres Lake Geneva steadied when close to the heels of Because U Said So. At the 600 metres Alvaro, which was over-racing, steadied when unable to improve between Lake Geneva and High Accolade. High Accolade raced wide from the 400 metres.

Snappy and Gida jumped awkwardly. Bobby Bear hesitated at the start. Seeking Angelo was slow to begin. Twitter reared at the start and from the outside barrier, was taken back. Leaving the 1350 metres Snappy steadied when tight on the inside of Abington. After being steadied, Snappy rolled out and brushed Bobby Bear, which was then carried onto Gida. Jockey Woodworth, the rider of Abington, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MTC Rule 160 A (e) and was subsequently fined Rs.25,000. Following this, Snappy was inclined to over-race, then down the back straight had to be steadied to avoid the heels of Abington and leaving the 600 metres rolled out, brushing Seeking Angelo. Twitter raced wide down the back straight. Down the back straight Bobby Bear and Adeste Fidelis raced tight for some distance. Seeking Angelo was taken wide from the 350 metres. N. Juglall, the rider of Twitter, explained from the outside barrier he took his mount back from the barriers in accordance with his instructions, however was then inclined to over-race and after pulling down the back straight was obliged to travel wide, then commenced to weaken approaching the home turn and was very disappointing.

Donnie Brasco jumped awkwardly. Polar Royale was slow to begin. Arabian Empire dipped badly shortly after the start. Always Flirting slipped behind upon jumping. At the 1350 metres The Colonels Son steadied from the hindquarters of Winter Skye, which rolled out. Approaching the 1250 metres Always Flirting was steadied and taken in to take the position on the rails behind Winter Skye. Polar Royale, which was following, had to be checked to avoid the heels of Always Flirting. Jockey David, the rider of Always Flirting, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MTC Rule 160 A (e) and was subsequently fined Rs.25,000. At the 275 metres The Colonels Son, which had commenced to give ground and was dropping back through the field, shifted away from Donnie Brasco and bumped heavily with Chequer with both horses becoming unbalanced. Skywalk Luke, which was following, was steadied and taken away from both these horses. Over the concluding stages Skywalk Luke had to be taken to the outside of Donnie Brasco to continue going forward.

As a result Carson City, which was tight on the inside of Forest Shelter, then had to steady on the heels of Isipho. Royal Times, which was following, then steadied. Ice Trigger was taken wide from the 350 metres, then in the home straight lay in and at the 100 metres had to be steadied from the hindquarters of Bali Mojo which was giving ground. At the 200 metres Forest Shelter, which was improving, rolled in, crowding Bali Mojo which then steadied when awkward between Joes Legacy and Forest Shelter. At the 150 metres Joes Legacy lay in under pressure, the rider putting his whip through to his right hand, however Carson City, which was following, steadied when unable to improve between Joes Legacy and Isipho. Over the concluding stages Carson City was taken to the outside of Joes Legacy to continue going forward, however was further inconvenienced when Joes Legacy shifted out under pressure and approaching the winning post Carson City brushed the hindquarters of Halabaloo. N. Juglall, the rider of Joes Legacy, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MTC Rule 160 A (e) and was subsequently fined Rs.25,000.
