The start was delayed when the stirrup of apprentice Roy (Arromonches) broke behind the stalls and had to be replaced. Following the running of the race, the Stewards considered an objection lodged by jockey Rama (Fyrkat), which was declared 3rd, against Alberts Day, being declared 2nd, and Tornado Man, being declared the winner, alleging interference in the final straight. After taking evidence from the respective riders and trainers, it was established that leaving the 200 metres Tornado Man commenced to shift in under pressure, Fyrkat, which was following, was taken out to continue going forward. Shortly after, Fyrkat was taken out to avoid the heels of Alberts Day, which was hanging in under pressure. The Stewards, taking into consideration the degree of the incident and the margins at the finish, dismissed both objections. Jockey V. Bundhoo (Tornado Man) was issued with a warning under MTC Rule 160 A (e) for not having straightened his mount. At an inquiry into the above incident, jockey Sola (Alberts Day) pleaded guilty to a charge under MTC Rule 160 A (e) for careless riding. He was suspended from riding in races for the race meetings of 2 and 9 April 2016.

Apprentice Roy (Arromonches) was unable to claim his full allowance and rode this gelding 1kg overweight. Alberts Day jumped awkwardly and brushed the right side of its gate. Tiger Master jumped awkwardly, crowding Fyrkat onto Arromonches. Arromonches raced wide from approaching the 450 metres. Approaching the 100 metres Tiger Master was taken out to avoid the heels of Tornado Man, Teamog, which was following, was slightly inconvenienced.

When questioned with regard to the poor performance of Tiger Master, jockey Sooful explained that he was instructed to endeavour to lead and after jumping awkwardly he had to ask his mount for an effort to secure the lead. He also said that from then on Tiger Master raced keen and, when asked for an effort approaching the 300 metres, failed to quicken and was very disappointing. A subsequent veterinary examination of Tiger Master revealed no abnormality.

Routine urine and blood specimens were taken for analysis from Tornado Man and Tiger Master after the race.

Following the running of the race, the Stewards sounded the inquiry sign and viewed the start of the race. It was established that prior to the start being effected Al Capitano became fractious and was slow out. Under these circumstances, correct weight was declared on the Judges’ semaphored numbers.

Karraar hesitated at the start and jumped awkwardly, brushing the hindquarters of Traianius. Leaving the 1300 metres Al Capitano commenced to over-race and had to be eased to avoid the heels of Rum Tum Tugger. Following this, Al Capitano continued to over-race and was awkward when racing in restricted room between Karraar and Rum Tum Tugger. Traianius raced wide throughout. Leaving the 1100 metres Al Capitano, which was still racing fiercely, was taken out to avoid the heels of Karraar and raced wide from then onwards. Cash Lord hung out in the home straight.

Routine urine and blood specimens were taken for analysis from Cash Lord after the race.

Following the running of the race, the Stewards sounded the inquiry sign and viewed the start of the race. It was established that Gameloft was fractious prior to the start being effected and jumped awkwardly when the gates opened, shifted in, unbalancing its rider. Under these circumstances, correct weight was declared on the Judges’ semaphored numbers.

New Star was slow to begin and, shortly after, was slightly inconvenienced by Gameloft. Castle raced wide without cover in the early stages and passing the 1300 metres was taken back to secure a position on the fence. Jockey Joorawon (Phiri E Kwatile) dropped his whip near the 400 metres. Approaching the 100 metres Gameloft shifted out under pressure, slightly inconveniencing Phiri E Kwatile. Jockey Ghunowa (Gameloft) was shown the video replays of the home straight and issued with a warning under MTC Rule 160 A (e) for careless riding in that he did not straighten his mount. Jockey Hall reported that from leaving the 900 metres Anafesto raced green and dropped the bit and, despite his urgings, failed to respond.

When questioned with regard to the poor performance of Lietuva, jockey David explained that he was expected to lead and managed to do so without much effort with the gelding travelling relaxed in the lead. However, when asked for an effort upon entering the home straight Lietuva failed to quicken and was very disappointing. An endoscopic examination of Lietuva revealed traces of blood in its trachea.

Routine urine and blood specimens were taken for analysis from Torotino after the race.

Shortly after the start Tube Wave was taken back to secure a position on the fence. Silver Dice raced wide rounding the home turn. Leaving the 200 metres Greys Inn Control shifted in under pressure with jockey Sola putting his whip away to straighten the gelding. When questioned with regard to the poor performance of Pont d’Avignon, jockey David explained that after managing to secure a position just behind the leaders, Pont d’Avignon raced relaxed from then onwards and passing the 400 metres, when asked for an effort, hung in and failed to quicken. He added that following the race Pont d’Avignon was blowing heavily. A subsequent veterinary examination of Pont d’Avignon revealed that it was distressed.

When questioned, jockey Joorawon (Parceval) explained that he was instructed to jump and endeavour to sit towards the rear of the field, taking into consideration that Parceval runs its best races when covered. He explained that this gelding jumped very well, as such he elected to bring back his mount with a view to get cover behind Silver Dice, which was improving on its outside. He added that leaving the 1300 metres, he wanted to secure a position on the rails behind Pont d’Avignon, however Tube Wave improved on its inside, as such he elected to bring his mount back and settle it behind Tube Wave. He also said that leaving the 400 metres, seeing that Pont d’Avignon was not improving, he elected to take his mount back out to ask it for an effort with Parceval only quickening fairly in the home straight. Trainer Maingard concurred and explained that in his opinion this gelding ran a good race, taking into consideration that it needs further.

Routine urine and blood specimens were taken for analysis from Tube Wave after the race.

Liquid Motion half-reared at the start and was slow out. Reim hesitated at the start and was slow to begin. Passing the 900 metres Reim, when being settled, threw its head. The Club’s Veterinary Surgeon reported that Abington suffered a bleeding attack. Following the running of the race, the Stewards inquired into a report from Assistant Trainer Dr. H. K. Gujadhur as to why Reim was not loaded last as per his request, as it jumps better when loaded last. After taking evidence from Dr. Gujadhur and Mr. S. Poupard, the Starter, it was established that Dr. Gujadhur had, through the Clerk of the Course, asked the Starter to load Reim in last position. Mr. Poupard explained that due to the fact that there were two difficult horses in the field, namely Albert Mooney and Abington, he found it proper, in the circumstances, to load Reim between Abington and Albert Mooney, the latter being a very difficult horse in the stall as evidenced by its past record, whereas Reim is usually a quiet horse in the stalls but has a tendency to be slow out.

Routine urine and blood specimens were taken for analysis from Casey’s War after the race.

Amber Palace was slow to begin. Ruby Rocker hesitated at the start. Approaching the 1200 metres Billy Bojangles had to be checked when cramped for room on the inside of Blizzard Of Ozz, which had been taken in when insufficiently clear. Melson, which was following, had to be eased and taken out to avoid the heels of Billy Bojangles and, in doing so, carried Amber Palace outside, with the latter carrying Ruby Rocker wider on the track. At an inquiry into this incident, jockey Ghunowa (Blizzard Of Ozz) pleaded guilty to a charge under MTC Rule 160 A (e) for careless riding. He was suspended from riding in races for the race meetings of 2 and 9 April 2016. For some distance approaching the 1100 metres Port Albert had to be eased to avoid the heels of Don’t Tell Mama, in doing so Port Albert threw its head over some distance. Ruby Rocker raced wide without cover in the early stages and approaching the 1000 metres was allowed to stride forward to race closer to the lead. Ruby Rocker dipped leaving the 400 metre-crossing. Amber Palace raced wide from approaching the 300 metres. Shortly after entering the home straight, Melson had to be steadied to avoid the heels of Port Albert, which was giving ground and was taken out to continue going forward. From leaving the 100 metres Melson had difficulty in obtaining clear running and approaching the 75 metres was taken to the inside of Don’t Tell Mama to continue going forward. Billy Bojangles hung in over the concluding stages. Approaching the winning post Don’t Tell Mama shied away from Melson, which was improving on its inside and shifted out onto Billy Bojangles.

Routine urine and blood specimens were taken for analysis from Blizzard Of Ozz after the race.
