League Of Legends – Stood flat-footed, losing considerable ground.

Never Fear - Inconvenienced near the 100 metres.

He’s Got Gears – Raced wide in the early stages. Near the 1100 metres was eased to secure a position one off the rail. Passing the 400 metres was taken out from behind Got To Fly to improve its position.

Blunderbuss – Slow to begin and, when being urged forward, failed to muster speed. Approaching the 600 metres raced momentarily tight on the inside of Got To Fly and brushed the running rail. Eased off the heels of Got To Fly approaching the 300 metres.

Got To Fly – Approaching the 600 metres had to be eased when awkwardly placed close to the heels of Blazing Heart, which had shifted ground when insufficiently clear. Approaching the 450 metres, when being urged forward, momentarily shifted in, tightening Blunderbuss. Approaching the 400 metres whilst laying in under pressure, shifted inwards, momentarily tightening Blunderbuss and shortly after, whilst still hanging in, shifted inwards, resulting in Blunderbuss having to be checked and losing its position.

Blazing Heart – Raced wide in the early stages.

Vintage Angel – From its wide draw was taken across to race behind runners. Was taken out from approaching the 450 metres to improve its position and raced wide from then onwards. Hung in in the home straight, slightly inconveniencing Never Fear near the 100 metres.

GENERAL

a) On inquiry, apprentice Khoody (Blazing Heart) pleaded guilty to a contravention of MTC Rule 160 A (f) in that approaching the 600 metres he carelessly allowed his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of Got To Fly, resulting in the latter becoming cramped for galloping room, shifting inwards onto Silver Rock, tightening the latter and having to be checked to avoid heels. He was suspended from riding in one race reserved for Mauritian riders.

b) On inquiry, it was established that near the 400 metres, when asked for an effort, Got To Fly raced green, shifted ground inwards and had to be straightened on several occasions and, approaching the 300 metres when He’s Got Gears improved on its outside, Got To Fly shied away and shifted in abruptly despite jockey Horil’s attempt to straighten it, crowding Blunderbuss. After consideration, the Stewards decided not to proceed further, however told jockey Horil to exercise care at all times.

White River – Shortly after the start raced tight on the inside of Cool At Heart and had to be eased. Passing the 1500 metres was taken to the outside of Tower Of Wisdom.

Cool At Heart – Passing the 800 metres dropped the bit despite jockey Holland’s urgings and failed to muster speed with jockey Holland eventually pulling the gelding out of the race near the 400 metres. When questioned, jockey Holland explained that after jumping well he managed to secure the lead easily and from leaving the 900 metres, when White River improved on his outside, his mount dropped the bit and despite his urgings never mustered speed. He added that thinking that there was something amiss with the gelding, he decided not to persevere with it. When questioned, Mr. Allet said that he was not in the country last week, however the horse had worked to his satisfaction leading to the race and he was confident of a good showing today. The Stewards requested that he monitors Cool At Heart and report anything untoward in the next 48 hours. On examination, this horse showed to be suffering from cardiac arrhythmia. Trainer V. Allet was told that the gelding will have to trial and pass a veterinary examination before being allowed to race again.

The start was delayed when Mysterious Omen proved difficult to load.

Middle Path – Hung in in the home straight. Was taken out from the 600 metres to improve its position and raced wide from then onwards. When questioned, jockey Strydom explained that Middle Path, being a hard puller and being drawn wide, he was instructed to endeavour to drop the gelding at the back of the field from the start to get him to settle as per its previous race where it had run an improved race, running on over the concluding stages. He added that after jumping well he had some difficulty in settling that gelding at the back of the field and that passing the 1100 metres he found himself racing in a one off position behind Kings Empire. He added that he did not mind being in that position as in his opinion the track was quite chopped up on the inside. He also said that from leaving the 900 metres Middle Path commenced to race fiercely and was awkwardly placed close to the heels of Mysterious Omen and being of the opinion that it was too early to make his move, he decided to restrain the latter and bring it back to the one off position behind Mysterious Omen. He further stated that from the 600 metres he allowed his mount to improve around horses and, when asked for an effort leaving the 250 metres, his mount hung in badly, proving difficult to assist. He also said that over the final 75 metres his mount was tired and gave ground on the rest of the field.

Taranaki – Was taken across to race behind runners shortly after the start. Leaving the 200 metres was switched to the inside of Volatile Energy to secure clear running.

Come On Sonny – Slow to begin. Dipped leaving the 900 metres and was eased out of the race approaching the 700 metres. When questioned, jockey Aucharuz explained that after being slow out at the start he urged his mount forward but the gelding failed to muster speed and leaving the 1000 metres, when still urging his mount forward, the latter commenced to make a respiratory noise and dipped passing the 900 metres. He stated that he felt something amiss with the gelding and he decided to ease it out of the race. Vet report: Nothing untoward detected.

Redwood Valley – Slow to begin. Hung in over the last 100 metres.

Sir Cliff – Slow to begin. Commenced to give ground to the field entering the home straight.

Volatile Energy –

Misty Roller – Shortly after the start shifted ground outwards, carrying Mysterious Omen outwards onto Taranaki, which was being taken back.

Captain Moss – Slow to begin. Passing the 900 metres clipped the heels of Seven Colours and stumbled. Hung in in the early stages of the home straight. Passing the 400 metres was taken out to improve its position and, in doing so, carried Red Indy wider on the track. When questioned with regard to its apparent improved performance, trainer A. Perdrau explained that at its last two starts this gelding, when being drawn wide raced wide in the early stages and, when asked for an effort, failed to quicken and was disappointing. He added that since then Captain Moss had improved at track work and for today’s race, taking into consideration that Red Indy, the horse to beat, had just beaten New Golden Age at its last start and in his opinion Captain Moss at its best is a much better horse than New Golden Age, he was quietly confident of a good showing provided that it jumped well and was able to race in a good position.
