Over the final 75 metres Bay Of Bengal had to steady from the heels of Living With Heart, which shifted in under pressure. Near the 75 metres Pegasus Legacy had to shift out away from Recall To Life and Ghost Dog to obtain clear running. When questioned with regard to the poor performance of Urbi Et Orbi, jockey Holland explained that it had pleased in the lead up to the race and he expected the gelding to run a good race today, however after securing a mid-field position on the rails, the gelding raced relaxed and leaving the 500 metres when Emerald Approach and Blue Lord improved around, he thought of peeling off to follow them, however he could feel that his mount was not going well enough. As such, he elected to wait and from the 300 metres when asked for an effort, it failed to quicken and was very disappointing. He added that in his opinion this race may have been one too many for Urbi Et Orbi. A subsequent veterinary examination of Urbi Et Orbi revealed no abnormality. The Stewards ordered urine and blood samples to be taken for analysis from Urbi Et Orbi.

Routine urine and blood specimens were taken for analysis from Emerald Approach and Urbi Et Orbi after the race.

Bottom Dollar and Dual Asset were slow to begin. From its wide draw, Recall To Life was taken across to race behind runners. Approaching the 1300 metres Solar Captain had to be eased when close to the heels of Ghost Dog when the latter shifted in when insufficiently clear and, when being eased, rolled in, crowding Bottom Dollar, which was racing on its inside. At an inquiry into this incident, jockey Mullen pleaded guilty under MTC Rule 160 A (e) for careless riding and was fined Rs.25,000. Approaching the 1200 metres Solar Captain had to be eased when close to the heels of Bay Of Bengal, which was being taken in, to race closer to the rails and, in doing so, Solar Captain shifted in, crowding Bottom Dollar. At an inquiry into this incident, jockey Currie, the rider of Bay Of Bengal, pleaded guilty to a charge under MTC 160 A (e) for careless riding and was fined Rs.25,000. Esteco raced fiercely from near the 1100 metres and, when being settled, threw its head on numerous occasions. Leaving the 1100 metres, when the pace slackened, Bottom Dollar started to over-race and approaching the 1000 metres became awkward when close to the heels of Bay Of Bengal and, when being steadied, threw its head and raced ungenerously for some distance. Near the 450 metres Pegasus Legacy was taken out to improve its position and, in doing so, carried Recall To Life wider on the track. When questioned, jockey Woodworth (Esteco) explained that from its good draw and the fact that there was no patented front runners in the field, he was instructed to endeavour to lead. After jumping well, he urged his mount forward with a view to secure the lead, however passing the 1365 metres, after having cleared Pegasus Legacy on his inside, he realised that Living With Heart was improving on his outside and that his mount was not fast enough to maintain the lead, he then elected to settle Esteco behind Living With Heart. When questioned, jockey Woodworth acknowledged that had he tried to insist for the lead, it would have been counter-productive to the chances of his mount, however acknowledged that he might have surrendered the lead too easily. He further explained that leaving the 1100 metres Esteco started to over-race and when being settled got its head up, as such he gave himself some room between himself and the leader in case the pace slackened, resulting in him having to be taken out. After consideration, the Stewards told jockey Woodworth that his ride had come under notice and that he ought to show more judgment when riding in races.

Routine urine and blood specimens were taken for analysis from Recall To Life after the race.
