Communiqué des commissaires (en version originale)

Following the running of the race, the Stewards sounded the inquiry sign and viewed the start of the start. It was established that as the gates opened Best Offer half-reared, bumping the right side of the gate but was in a position to start when the gates opened and was declared a runner. The Stewards being unsatisfied of the performance of Best Offer, trainer Maigrot was advised that the gelding should trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards before being allowed to race again.

Ile De Sol jumped awkwardly and stumbled. Soviet Sun raced wide in the early and middle stages. Passing the 600 metres, Mdansi was steadied when close to the heels of Irish Patriot. Twilight’s Rush raced wide from the 500 metres. Leaving the 200 metres What Price had to be taken out from behind Soviet Sun to continue going forward. The Club’s Veterinary Surgeon Surgeon reported that Ile De Sol was jarred up on its off fore fetlock.

Trainer Rameshwar Gujadhur and jockey Craven were questioned regarding the handling of Soviet Sun. Trainer R. Gujadhur explained that he expected Soviet Sun to run an improved race as it had been working satisfactorily leading up to today’s race. After having studied the race, he felt there was no real front runner other than Ile De Sol, hence he thought, as Soviet Sun had led before from a wide draw, he would endeavour to take the lead or race close to the lead. Therefore, his instructions to jockey Craven were to jump and endeavour to lead or sit close to the leader, if unable to lead. Jockey Craven confirmed these instructions and explained that his mount jumped well and he asked it for an effort in order to get close to the leader, however he was caught wide on the first turn and Soviet Sun started to over race. He added that Soviet Sun being a horse with a low head carriage and a hard puller, he was unable to bring him back to race behind the leader, hence he decided to go forward to secure the lead. He stated that once in front his horse relaxed but started fading from the 500 metres due to the effort he had made to get to the lead. Their explanations were noted.

Routine urine and blood specimens were taken for analysis from Acuppa after the race.

Leaving the 700 metres I’ll Be Back was crowded when Kings Wings rolled in. I’ll Be Back raced wide from the 350 metres. Leaving the 200 metres jockey Rama, the rider of Wolfe Tone, lost his off side rein, which he quickly regained. Shortly after Wolfe Tone hung out, carrying Silent Screen wider on the track. Kings Wings, which was following, was inconvenienced and had to be taken in to continue going forward. Wolfe Tone kept on hanging out under pressure, with Silent Screen becoming inconvenienced on the heels of I’ll Be Back, which had improved on its outside. Jockey Rama was shown the video of the incident, warned and told that he should straighten his mounts when they shift ground. Over the concluding stages I’ll Be Back rolled in. When questioned, jockey Sooful, the rider of Western Emblem, explained that upon entering the home straight it was his intention to go for an inside run, however as he was improving Firebolt shifted in and he had to steady when close to its heels, he thought about taking his mount out but realised that Firebolt would be going straight. He then took his mount in to secure the run on the inside of Firebolt but Western Emblem, which was having its first start in Mauritius, was very green and took a long time before getting into the gap. His explanations were noted.

Routine urine and blood specimens were taken for analysis from I’ll Be Back after the race.
