Following the barrier draws for tomorrow's Duchess Of York Cup, Table Bay was handed the perfect draw, while his nearest rivals Ten Gun Salute and Budapest were drawn in barriers 4 and 5 respectively.

Delving into previous years, it is interesting to see that horses from Gujadhur stable have won classic races from the pole position draw. Tomorrow could well see Table Bay emulate Ready To Attack (S.Rama), who won this race after jumping from the first draw, while Bulsara (N.Callow) (2014) and Hinterland (F.Herholdt) (2004) won this classic race after being handed the plum draw.

While all eyes were on Bulsara (J.Bardottier) in the 2015 Maiden Cup, it was his stable mate Vettel that came out on top. Drawn in the ace, he won from start-to-finish with Kevin Ghunowa on board.

In the 2006 Duchess Of York Cup, Ramapatee Gujadhur entered T Rex (Y.Emamdee) and National Manner (R.Joorawon). The latter - which was the second runner - was in fact handed the pole position draw, although it was T Rex who would go on to win, earning his trainer his second win in this race.

It can be said that the pole position draw has been very kind in the Duchess Of York Cup. From 2009 to 2011, the three winners - Cormorant Pass (H.Maigrot - C.Daby), Disa Leader (G.Rousset - R.S.Dye) and Royal Chalon (R.Maingard - C.Segeon) all won from the pole position draw.

Plenty of horses have gone on to win classic races from the pole position draw. Have Mercy's (G.Fok - S.Mahadia) second Maiden Cup win in 2005 came from his plum draw, while a year later, World Focus (A.Perdrau - R.Hill) won his second Barbe Cup from the ace.

In 2007, Vincent Allet's second runner Ubusuku (G.Hatt) won the Maiden Cup from the ace, while in 2008, both Sentinal (A.Perdrau - G.Hatt) and Mr Brock (G.Rousset - A.Delpech) won the Barbe Cup and Maiden Cup respectively from their pole position draws.

Gliding High (H.Maigrot - R.Burke) justified his status as favourite in the 2010 Barbe Cup, doing so from the ace. Two years later in the Maiden Cup, the pole position draw was very kind to Ice Axe (G.Faucon), who came out on top in his duel with IL Saggiatore (G.Hatt), earning Ricky Maingard his first Maiden Cup win.

Can Table Bay take advantage of his plum draw? All will be revealed tomorrow afternoon.
