Sky Bet in the UK refunded customers after two separate incidents on an eventful afternoon at Epsom.

Chica De La Noche, representing trainer Simon Dow, got rid of Harry Bentley at the start of the All New Fiesta At Trust Ford Handicap, but Sky Bet punters who had followed the gambled-on favourite were returned their stakes.

Later on the same card, Boom The Groom dispensed with Robert Winston just after the gates had opened in the Caspian Prince Handicap, giving backers no run for their money.

Sky Bet’s Michael Shinners said: “Both these horses were well-backed and punters were extremely hard done by, so we’ve refunded them.

“The sprint handicap was costly as Midnight Malibu, the eventual winner, was particularly strong in the market before the off – we took a double hit there.”

It was an otherwise decent afternoon for the layers, with Ripon throwing up a 66-1 winner which beat a fancied horse from a powerful Newmarket yard, an even-money favourite beaten a nose at Chepstow, and winners at 16-1 and 10-1 at Southwell.
